Masoor ki daal (Brown lentils)

It is simple, healthy and very easy recipe for brown lentils. It involves only the time lentils to fully cook. It is good during fall season as well as during fall season. Everyone should have this type of recipe in the list of recipe as this is very easy, light and healthy. It is a must try recipe and please let us know if you try this recipe.

Ingredients

1 cup raw brown lentils

¾ tbsp of salt

1 ½ tbsp of red chili powder

¼ tsp of turmeric powder

Water as required

4 small cloves of garlic, peeled

2 tbsp of desi ghee, or melted butter

½ tsp of cumin seeds

½ tsp of garam masala

Some fresh coriander

Procedure

1) Add your lentils in a bowl wash them well with water and soak them in water for a while. Half fill the heavy bottom pan with water and heat it up on medium heat. When water gets heat up add salt, red chili powder and turmeric powder. Close the lid and let it comes to a boil.  

2) Add your lentils in the pot. Let them cook on medium heat with partially covering it with a lid. After 10 to 15 minutes fully close the lid and let the lentils cook. Time of cooking will vary with the type of brown lentils you cook with. But mine takes about 1 hour to fully cook.

3) In a small frying pan or any pan you have add desi ghee and let it melt on medium heat. Add peeled garlic and cumin seeds. Let them cook until they get fragrant and lightly brown in color. Add straight into the cooked lentils, immediately close the lid. After 10 minutes add garam masala and mix it. Add fresh coriander and you are ready to serve.
